RESTORING A CLASSIC 1970’S FRONT ENGINED V-12 FERRARI

I  bought MPB 130K in September 1998 & this site records the rebuild & restoration. My car is a rare right hand drive car 8 after dismantling down to the last nut I began the huge task of rebuilding it.Every single part was either rebuilt, reconditioned or where possible, replaced. It is a considerable task that requires a significant degree of both patience & organisation but after seven years it was well worth the effort.

OWNERSHIP HISTORY. Early in the cars  history there were several owners but the last of these kept the car for 22 years.A comprehensive history file came with the car together will all the tools & manuals

Obtaining these details was a surprisingly simple exercise. A £5.00 cheque together with the VIN and registration numbers to the Fee Paying Section of the DVLA in Swansea produced a full computer printout & a copy of the original registration document.

The Ferrari 365 GTC4 is an elegant  2+2 with a two small rear seats that were only useful as a luggage platform.Adding air conditioning and power steering made this Ferrari really useable for everyday motoring. It’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show was unremarkable & there was  harsh criticism for its unconventional  appearance.I think Pininfarina designer Filippo Sapino created what many see now as extremely appealing not "Il Gobbone" (the humpback) as it was originally nicknamed.

A short test drive reveals this is any  exceptional car but sadly the initial insult stuck. The four cam Colombo engine produces 340 bhp & though not as quick as a Daytona, the GTC4 was still quick yet  far nicer to drive.Hilary Raab Jr’s Ferrari numbers book, lists an 18 months production run(1971-1973) with 508 cars built. 41 cars with RHD. 32 of these were known UK cars.Presumably the remaining RHD cars went to Australia,South Africa & Japan??

This is my car finished. I have done all I can as there is nothing left on the car that has not been repaired, overhauled, reconditioned or replaced,

Weather permitting  I now intend to drive it!
